Our story
Put each expense on the right tax line, with the reason written out.
I'm Johnny Mobley. I started building systems for other people in 2000, when I was 16, and I've been doing it ever since. Along the way I automated most of my own work, and the tools I built for myself became these companies. Each one runs on rules I wrote down, not on paid AI calls, which is why it can cost so little.
At tax time, a year of expenses has to be sorted onto the lines of IRS Schedule C, and the hard part is the borderline ones: is fuel for the work truck travel, or car and truck? Bookeepr answers that one transaction at a time.
Describe a transaction and it suggests a category, how sure it is, and why, in a sentence. Clear-cut cases go through a rule set I measured against held-out examples; anything it can't place goes to a wider set of written rules, and the answer says which one replied. It's a suggestion for you or your accountant to confirm, not tax advice.
What works today
- Suggests a small-business expense category for one transaction you describe, such as Car & Truck for work-truck fuel or Travel for a flight
- Gives a confidence level and a plain reason for each suggestion
What it doesn't do yet
Keeper still does things Bookeepr doesn't:
- Pulling transactions from your bank or card. Bookeepr takes one description at a time.
- Remembering how you re-categorized a vendor and applying it next time.
- Uploading a whole statement as a CSV.
- Filing taxes or giving tax advice.
